Candle In The Window

Program Information
This program begins with the powerful image of a candle in the window—a symbol of welcome, hope, and peace shared across many cultures and traditions. From colonial America to Hanukkah and the Nativity, the candle connects stories of shelter, faith, and celebration. Highlights include the French carol “Un flambeau, Jeanette, Isabelle,” the Nahuatl lullaby “Xicochi Conetzintle,” the Ladino Hanukkah song “Ocho Kandelikas,” and other festive pieces from Colombia and Brazil.
The theme of peace continues with global selections such as “A Bridge of Peace,” “Iraqi Peace Song,” and “Kuimba Nafsi Yangu.” Folk songs from Latvia, Turkey, and China add cultural richness, while Queen Lili’uokalani’s Hawaiian anthem and Elaine Hagenberg’s “Caritas” offer heartfelt calls for unity. The program concludes with a new arrangement of Sibelius’ Finlandia, blending Zulu lyrics and soaring harmonies to celebrate a shared vision of peace.
